Osmose 61: One More Octave, Infinite Expression
Building on the worldwide success of the 49-key Osmose, the new 61-key version adds an extra octave, giving musicians more room to explore, compose, and perform. Musicians can now choose between the original 49-key or 61-key model, depending on their needs and playing style.
Beyond the instrument itself, Osmose thrives within a living, evolving ecosystem of software, presets, and community-driven updates, ensuring it grows and improves over time. And with production now fully internalized in a new Polish factory, Expressive E guarantees the highest European quality standards for every instrument.
A Bigger Range, Same Innovation
With 61 keys, Osmose 61 offers greater harmonic and melodic freedom, perfect for two-handed playing, complex arrangements, and live performance. It retains everything that made the 49-key model revolutionary: the expressive 3D keybed, MPE integration, high-end interface, and premium build quality - giving musicians the choice to stay with 49 keys or step up to 61.
Unmatched Expressivity
Developed and fully designed by Expressive E, the Osmose keybed sets a new benchmark for MPE instruments. Every note responds with nuance to velocity, press, aftertouch, pitch bend, pressure glide, strum, vibrato, and more - making the keyboard a natural extension of the player's hands.
Multi-Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer has already tapped into its expressive potential on landmark projects such as the Dune: Part Two soundtrack.
"You guys spent an enormous amount of time building exactly the instruments that should have been built a hundred years ago." - Hans Zimmer
EaganMatrix Always at the Core of Osmose Sound
Powered by the legendary EaganMatrix engine, developed by Haken Audio, Osmose delivers rich acoustic textures and complex synth sounds that react intuitively to every gesture. Its versatile engine supports physical modeling, FM, subtractive synthesis, and more, complemented by onboard reverb, delay, compressor, and EQ.
With 580 factory presets and up to 2048 preset slots, Osmose offers a complete, performance-ready palette while staying true to the expressive soul of the instrument.
A Living Ecosystem
Osmose is more than an instrument; it is at the center of a living ecosystem that grows and evolves with its community of musicians.
Expressive E has expanded the software ecosystem around Osmose, offering a rich library of sounds through partnerships with renowned companies such as U-He, KiloHearts, Dawesome, AAS, and Synapse Audio. These collaborations are featured in the Expressive Suites, available on the Expressive E website.
Proprietary software explicitly designed for Osmose - such as the new Soliste (physically modeled solo strings) and Noisy 2 (a dual-layer, noise-driven synth) - has also been released to further expand musical possibilities.
This ecosystem is designed to grow. Expressive E is committed to making Osmose evolve over time, with regular firmware updates bringing smoother workflows, deeper DAW integration, and an ever more fluid user experience.
Coming soon, a series of mini-synths with intuitive editors for the EaganMatrix will make sound design more accessible than ever, transforming what was once a complex interface into an expressive, user-friendly platform for creativity.
Made in Europe: A New Factory in Poland
Until now, Osmose production has been outsourced to China. To meet global demand while guaranteeing uncompromising quality, Expressive E is taking a decisive step forward: a new assembly facility in Poland, fully dedicated to Osmose and future instruments.
For the first time, the company will no longer rely on subcontractors. Every stage, from design to assembly, will now be handled in-house. This shift gives Expressive E full control over the lifecycle of its products, ensuring reliability, sustainability, and the highest European quality standards.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression)?
MPE is a protocol that allows each note on a keyboard to send independent pitch bend, pressure, and modulation data. Unlike traditional MIDI where one controller affects all notes, MPE lets you shape each note individually - perfect for expressive playing techniques like per-note vibrato, pitch slides, and dynamic articulation.
How does Osmose compare to Roli Seaboard?
While both are MPE controllers, Osmose offers traditional full-size keys (vs Seaboard's continuous keywave surface), making it easier for pianists to transition. Osmose includes a built-in professional sound engine (EaganMatrix) with 500+ presets, while Seaboard requires external software. Osmose's 3D keybed provides more nuanced control with vertical pressure, lateral movement, and aftertouch on every key.
Can I use Osmose as a MIDI controller with my DAW?
Yes! Osmose works in three modes: standalone synthesizer, MPE MIDI controller, and classic MIDI controller. It connects via USB or 5-pin MIDI and is compatible with all major DAWs including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, Bitwig, and any MPE-compatible software like Arturia Pigments, U-He Zebra, and more.
What is the EaganMatrix sound engine?
EaganMatrix is a powerful modular synthesis engine developed by Haken Audio, combining physical modeling, FM synthesis, subtractive synthesis, and more. It's specifically optimized for expressive playing and comes with 500+ professionally designed presets that respond dynamically to Osmose's 3D keybed gestures.
Is Osmose good for beginners?
Osmose is excellent for players of all levels. If you have basic keyboard skills, you'll feel at home immediately - it uses standard full-size keys. The expressive features enhance rather than replace traditional technique, so you can start playing familiar music right away while gradually exploring the advanced gestural controls. The 500+ presets are designed to respond musically to natural playing movements.

Osmose vs Hydrasynth
While both offer polyphonic aftertouch, Hydrasynth focuses on traditional subtractive synthesis with wave morphing, whereas Osmose specializes in MPE performance with physical modeling and the EaganMatrix engine. Osmose's 3D keybed offers more expressive dimensions of control per note, making it ideal for acoustic instrument emulation and nuanced performance articulation.
