The Super Viking continues in the Viking tradition by incorporating key features from Hagstrom's legendary Super Swede model into a Viking platform. An important trait inherited from its Super Swede cousin is the Super Viking's longer, 25.5 inch (648mm) scale length. Drop tunings are a breeze with this longer scale, maintaining brilliance of attack and powerful resonance throughout the instrument as lower tonal realms are explored. Sonic versatility is further enhanced by Hagstrom's new, open framed H-50'C humbucker pickups designed specifically for the Super Viking. Add to this mix independent switching between humbucker and single coil mode via push/pull tone pots, and the Super Viking vastly expands your tonal horizons, creating a new range of sonic worlds to ravage.

Resinator™ Wood

Resinator™ wood is a composite material that is more uniform in density and more stable than standard wood products. These characteristics eliminate dead spots or “wolf tones” sometimes associated with conventional wood fingerboards. Resinator™ wood delivers an articulate sound similar to high-quality ebony, but without the issues commonly associated with ebony. It provides a stable, clear tone and adds higher overtones and harmonics that uniquely define each note. Like the H-Expander™ truss rod, Resinator™ wood is a major contributor to the distinctive “Hagstrom tone.”

Hagstrom Machine Heads

Hagstrom models use machine heads with 18:1 or 15:1 gear ratios, based on Hagstrom’s own designs, to ensure precise and accurate tuning. Viking® and HB series basses are equipped with machine heads featuring a 17:1 gear ratio.

H-Expander™ Truss Rod

All Hagstrom electric guitars and basses feature the patented H-Expander™ truss rod. Providing tension at both ends and running the full length of the neck, this rigid yet lightweight alloy truss rod allows for very low action and a thin neck—two key factors that helped establish Hagstrom’s reputation for exceptionally fast-playing guitars. In addition to outstanding neck stability, the H-Expander™ truss rod enhances Hagstrom’s unique tonal character by adding longer sustain and a rounder attack.

Set Neck Construction

Hagstrom employs a variety of neck joints across its range. The set-neck construction uses the classic and time-tested mortise-and-tenon joint, a design that efficiently transfers string energy from neck to body and is often found only on high-end, custom-built guitars. Each neck joint is hand-carved by experienced craftsmen to ensure precise execution of this traditional luthier-preferred technique.

Trapeze Stringholder / Tailpiece

The classic Viking® trapeze stringholder and tailpiece is a work of art in its own right. Beneath the top section—where the two elegantly swept beams meet—it features a string claw for easy access and comfortable string changes. Adorned with the legendary Hagstrom crest, it is the very definition of elegance.
